BASSETERRE: Business continues for stakeholders of the cruise sector, as St. Kitts benefits from a record breaking summer cruise season. This week, four cruise ships arrived at the destination, which in years past would have been one or two cruise ships in the same period.

The summer months, June to September, are generally slow in activity for the cruise sector in the Caribbean, however; cruising to St. Kitts continues with the arrival of more than 40,000 cruise ship passengers every month since the beginning of the slow season.

The St. Tourism Authority recently projected that this week from 7th to 11th August 2017, more than 17,400 cruise ship passengers would visit the island.

Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Lindsay F.P. Grant, indicated that he would continue to work hard to bring more cruise ships to St. Kitts, and thanked the tourism stakeholders for their exceptional work in offering cruise ship passengers the ultimate Kittitian Experience.

"It is through the hard work and dedication of my team at the Ministry of Tourism, the St. Kitts Tourism Authority and tourism stakeholders, that we are seeing the benefits of increases in port calls during the slowest periods of the cruise season," Minister Grant said. "St. Kitts is a cruise destination that offers passengers diversity in their tours and excursions; It is through the success and continued efforts in enhancing our tourism products—via great customer service and innovative tours and excursions, our cruise industry continues to grow."

During the week cruise ships such as: Adventure of the Seas with a maximum cruise ship passenger of 3,840, the Carnival Magic with a maximum capacity of 4,631 , the Allure of the Seas with a maximum capacity of 6,700, and the Carnival Fascination with a maximum capacity of 2,594 visited our shores.

The summer cruise season for St. Kitts has sizzled with activity highlighted by record-breaking arrivals in the month of July. That month saw 11 cruise ship calls, with an unprecedented total maximum capacity of more than 48,000 passengers. On Wednesday 26th July, St. Kitts would have received over 9,000 visitors, the most ever in one day in the month of July.

Cruise line executives are confident that St. Kitts delivers a great experience. Royal Caribbean has two Oasis Class Fleets, Harmony of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, that are currently visiting our port for the summer season. Two Oasis Class Fleets have never visited our shores during previous summer season.

Additionally, the Royal Caribbean and Carnival cruise lines selected St. Kitts as one of their frequented island for most of their cruise ships visits during the summer period.
