(Jamaica Observer) KINGSTON, Jamaica — Leader of Opposition Business Phillip Paulwell has announced that former Prime Minister and Leader of the People's National Party (PNP) Portia Simpson Miller and former Finance Minister Dr Omar Davies intend to resign from Parliament on June 29, 2017.

A release a short while ago from the People's National Party's (PNP) secretariat said: “Leader of Opposition Business in the House of Parliament, Phillip Paulwell today at the request of former Prime Minister and MP for South West St Andrew the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller and Member of Parliament for South St Andrew, Dr Omar Davies, has announced that they will both submit letters of intent to resign to the Speaker of the House.

“Simpson Miller and Dr Omar Davies will officially resign on June 29 when their letters of resignation will be handed to the Speaker of the House. In accordance with our laws, such resignations once handed to the Speaker become immediately effective, hence today's letters of intent and not resignations.
