St. John's, Nevis: The St. John’s Community softball league is on the way. The league commenced on Sunday May 27, with one match. Brown Hill won over Pond Hill in a close and exciting encounter. The Brown Hill team batted first and scored a competitive 92 for 2 in 10 overs on the back of a scintillating 55 by Dave Parris and a more sedate 16 not out by Mark Brantley, batting through the entire 10 overs for his knock. Bernette Thompson scored 10. Pond Hill in response got to a close 87 for 4 in their 10 overs. Leonard ‘Humpy’ Reede slammed 42; Irvawn Challenger 21 and Kejel Reede 12.
Hugo Grant bagged 2 for 22 and Lester Liburd 1 for 13. On Monday 28th Cole Hill defaulted to Church Ground in match one, unable to field a full team. In game two the ‘Mix up' School team led by Adelvin Phillip which featured the school boys of the EP Primary School, along with Carlon Smithen and Alex Williams, won over Cox by all of 46 runs. The Mix Up team batted first and even after Carlon Smithen went for a one ball duck off the bowling of Alsted Pemberton, managed an impressive 93 for 4 in 10 overs. Adelvin Phillip scored 56 and Kayode Wilkin 18. Alsted Pemberton got 1 for 21 and Hon Hensley Daniel 1 for 5 from his medium pacers. Cox could only muster 47 for 8 in their 10 overs. J. Brookes 12 and Alsted Pemberton 11, with Hon Hensley Daniel 1 not out. Matches continue on Sunday June 3 at 5:00 pm.
