Phillipsburg, St. Maarten (Curtis Morton): A very exciting series of matches was played over the weekend of December 1st and 2nd. It was the annual Luther Kelly over 35 Leeward Islands tournament, played in St. Maarten. In the grand finale between Nevis and host island St. Maarten , Nevis batted first and scored 135.
It came down to an exciting scenario with the home team requiring 3 runs to win from the final delivery bowled by Derrick Parry. Trocard swung lustily into the onside and the batsmen hurried through for two runs—a tie! So, it came down to the super over. Trocard and Evans swung lustily at every delivery bowled by Wendell Wallace and scored from every delivery, including a crucial maximum.
When Nevis batted, surprisingly, the Tournament’s leading runs getter, Junior Mills was not sent out to bat. Instead Nevis opened with Wendell Wallace and Merlin Liburd. The man adjudged as the tournament’s best bowler, L. Williams was very mean as he had been all afternoon and the two top batsmen managed only 5 runs from his six deliveries. The St.Maarten fans went screaming onto the field. Their team had won in the super over.
