Guyana rallies twice, draws with El Salvador in World Cup qualifying

San Salvador, El Salvador (Boxscore): Treyon Bobb scored a goal in each half to twice rally Guyana to a 2-2 draw with El Salvador on Friday, ending a three-game losing streak in World Cup qualifying and five-game skid overall. Bobb scored both goals, in in the 16th and 53rd minutes, off feeds from from Gregory Richardson, earning Guyana its first point of the semifinal round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying.

Guyana remained at the bottom of Group B with one point, one behind El Salvador. Group leaders Mexico and Costa Rica played each other later Friday night. It was a second straight loss at home in World Cup qualifying for El Salvador, which will travel to face Guyana on Tuesday and still must play Mexico away.

"Los Cuscatlecos" twice led, going ahead the first time in the fourth minute on a goal by Isidro Gutierrez, who turned provider in the 21st with a cross from the right for Osael Romero. The goal by Romero was his team-leading fifth in World Cup qualifying.

But Bobb converted on a counter for Guyana's first, hitting a rising shot past goalkeeper Dagoberto Portillo at the near post, and then finished off a through ball from Richardson early in the second half. El Salvador pushed late for a third go-ahead goal, but Elder Figueroa headed wide from inside the area with possibly its best chance in the 74th. The match marked the first time in six matches since February that Guyana has scored two goals in a match. It had scored only one goal combined in the six-match stretch.
