(US Embassy) The U.S. Embassy to Barbados, the Eastern Caribbean, and the OECS, through its Military Liaison Office, is conducting first responder training on St. Kitts and Nevis at Camp Springfield in Basseterre, St. Kitts.

From March 13-17, 2017, the Florida National Guard and the Royal St. Kitts and Nevis Defense Force (SKNDF) are conducting a professional exchange to discuss best practices and methods to improve both the United States and SKNDF first responder methods.  This training is critical, as both countries face several natural and man-made disaster threats, where effective first responder skills are crucial to saving lives during a crisis.

The workshop will aid in better understanding of medicine and trauma care to support security operations, and their application for regional peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

U.S. Ambassador to Barbados, the Eastern Caribbean, and the OECS Linda Taglialatela said about the training, "Capacity building and preparedness are essential tenets of our co-operation with security forces here in the Eastern Caribbean.  Through exchanges such as this one, the Embassy helps regional partners respond to natural and man-made disasters in an effective and expedient way. This demonstrates, once again, what a high priority we put on citizen safety and security in St. Kitts and across the region."
