St. John's, Antigua (Antigua Observer): Arson has been ruled out as the cause of the June 10 fire that destroyed one of LIAT’s passenger aircraft in a blaze that gutted the regional carrier’s heavy maintenance hangar located behind VC Bird International Airport.
National Security Minister Dr Errol Cort issued a statement on the matter yesterday, but he did not reveal the findings as it relates to the cause of the fire, since investigations are ongoing.
A two-member team, led by forensic fire specialist Inspector Roderick Walcott of Barbados Police Force, was brought in to probe the matter and Dr Cort said they briefed him over the weekend before their departure Saturday evening.
Even as investigations continue, Dr Cort said, “The forensic arson investigators from the Royal Barbados Police Force are however confident that they have been able to identify the actual source and cause of the fire. They will detail their findings in a written report, which will be submitted shortly. The findings to date do not suggest arson.” Read full story here...
