(Antigua Observer) Two police officers facing corruption, kidnapping, illegal confinement and assault charges will have to take their chances in the High Court after their attempts to get bail from Magistrate Conliffe Clarke were unsuccessful.

Corporal Marcus Isadore, 43, of Potters and Constable Peter Lugay, 23, of Ottos appeared in the St John’s Magistrates’ Court yesterday where their attorneys, Andrew O’Kola and Lawrence Daniels, made oral applications for bail, without objection from the prosecution, before Magistrate Clarke interjected.

“I have never seen a case of kidnapping and confinement with a gun and bail is not objected,” Magistrate Clarke said. “Let’s address the 800-pound gorilla in the room, these men are known to me, they are police officers and neither side has mentioned that … no concern is shown here for the virtual complainant.”
