(Antigua Observer) The expelled opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) member Joanne Massiah said she is launching her new political party next Tuesday.

This comes nearly two months after the UPP ousted her and after a near two-year row following a leadership race fallout.

Massiah, who is the MP for All Saints East and St Luke, said the launch will take place at 10 am on April 18 at the Multipurpose Cultural Centre.

She said she will be leading the party and is the first woman to do so in the country’s political history.

Massiah is yet to disclose the name of the party, but she said it will be fielding candidates in all 17 constituencies in Antigua & Barbuda.

The MP earlier accused her UPP colleagues of lying about her refusal to cooperate during the dispute over the leadership race and after.
