St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN):The celebrations are on around the Caribbean and further afield as West Indies ‘clean sweeps’ the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup championships.
The West Indies men claimed victory after Carlos Brathwaite smacked four sixes in a row in the finals against England on Sunday (April 3) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, India.
With Windies needing 13 runs from 5 balls in the final over, Brathwaite was only aiming for the stands- he did not disappoint. His partnership with Marlon Samuels- who bagged Man of the Match- racked up a face-paced 54 from 26 deliveries.
Final scores: England 155 for nine; West Indies 161 for six.
This is West Indies’ first T20 Men’s World Cup title.
The Caribbean is celebrating altogether – three victories.
The West Indies Women’s team had earlier on Sunday bagged its very own impressive victory to take the ICC T20 World Cup championship for the first time in its history.
Windies cruised to victory with eight wickets in hand and three balls to spare thanks to a 120-run opening stand between captain Stefanie Taylor (59 runs off 57balls) and 18-year-old Hayley Matthews (66 runs off 45balls).
Under 19 glory is also a fact.
