St. Kitts and Nevis hails Jamaica’s 50th Anniversary of Independence

Prime Ministers Douglas and Simpson-Miller

Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts (CUOPM):  St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas says the 50th Anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence is a significant milestone in that nation’s history that serves not only as a solid platform on which to celebrate the collective remarkable achievements, but also one which allows for reflection on lessons learned and the challenges ahead.

“As you celebrate and commemorate your nation’s achievements under the Jamaica-50 calendar of events, may you be ever mindful of the challenges we face individually and collectively as a region. I am convinced with your continued commitment and sterling leadership we will be able to confront and overcome these obstacles,” said Prime Minister Douglas to his Jamaica counterpart, the Most Honourable Mrs. Portia-Simpson-Miller, her government and the people of Jamaica.

“You stand tall today with the distinguished leaders before you who have blazed the trail and who in their respective ways have surmounted the struggles of the earlier years to independence so as to pave the way for the sons and daughters of today’s Jamaica,” said Prime Minister Douglas in his message to the Jamaican leader.

Prime Minister Douglas told Mrs. Simpson-Miller: “I am convinced that with your continued commitment and sterling leadership as a proud daughter of the soil and indeed the region, Jamaica will be able to confront and overcome its obstacles and continue its trek to economic and socio-cultural well being, building on these fifty years.”

“May God continue to bless you and the people of Jamaica as you forge ahead with the mantle of leadership of your proud nation!  Best wishes for a Happy Fiftieth Anniversary of Independence,” said Prime Minister Douglas on behalf of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
