NOC sends Tameka home from London Games

Tameka Williams

Basseterre, St. Kitts (WINN):  A pall is over the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Team in the wake of one of its athletes being sent home from the games.

NOC Vice President Dennis “Freddie” Knight confirmed to WINN FM on Saturday morning that sprinter Tameka Williams had been sent home.  Speaking to WINN FM from London he declined to give details saying that he and the NOC President Mr. Alfonso Bridgewater were in the process of preparing a press release.  He did however, confirm that the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee had sent Tameka home.

A post on Ms Williams’ Facebook page entered at about 300 EST Saturday read:

“Although results from a drug test in early June came back clean I was sent home due to false accusations. It's sad to see a 22-year-olds dreams washed away by people who don't believe in me. W/ no chance of a second drug test to prove my innocence I was dismissed. SKN I am not sorry for working hard all year and I have never taken illegal substances to enhance my performance or any thereof.”

Sprint icon Kim Collins later posted on his page, “We miss you already Tameka.”

Tameka was slated to compete in the Women’s 100m and 200m at the London Games.
