Basseterre, St. Kitts (WINN): The co-deputy Leaders of the People’s Action Movement have both indicated an interest in taking the helm of Party.
Shawn Richards, the Parliamentary representative for St. Christopher Five has is mid-way through his second term in National Assembly, says he’s well-placed to lead the PAM.
Meantime, Richards’ Co-Deputy Chair Eugene Hamilton says he too is interested and ready to serve as leader. Hamilton elected to Parliament in 2010, says he has for years played an active role in the development of party policy, and brings a wealth of managerial experience to table.
The MP for Constituency Eight says he expects no friction between himself and Mr. Richards as they both vie for the top job.
A leader is selected by a special Delegates Caucus of the party, made up of ten delegates from each constituency and delegates from other arms of the party like the Young PAMites and the Women’s Group. They vote for a leader, and their choice is then taken to a convention at which the General Membership of the party is asked to ratify the decision.
Current Leader Lindsay Grant has resigned effective September 30th. He has indicated that he will continue to represent the party as a candidate in Constituency Four.
