National AIDS programme to launch Human Rights Campaign

Basseterre, St. Kitts (WINN): The Ministry of Health’s National AIDS programme will launch human rights campaign next month.
Coordinator Dawn Mills speaking to WINN FM Thursday said the objective of the campaign was to raise awareness about how the marginalization of persons living with HIV/AIDS infringes of their human rights.
“Making St. Kitts-Nevis Better, Equality for All,” is the theme for the campaign which will run for the second two weeks in July. It will include community consultations, town hall meetings, lectures and presentations. One of the major activities of the campaign is an essay competition, which was launched on Monday.
1.This essay competition runs from June 25th 2012 until July 20th 2012.
2.All residents of St Kitts and Nevis are eligible to enter this competition except employees of The Ministry of Health and their immediate family members.
3.There will be three categories for essay entries:
i.9 – 12 years (500 words)
ii.13 – 17 years (750 words)
iii.18 and over (1000 words)
4.The essay topic for each category is as follows:
i.What three solutions would you suggest to your Prime Minister to ensure equality among the citizens of St Kitts-Nevis? (9 – 12 years)
ii.In what ways can popular reggae and rap artists play a leading role in promoting human rights and equality for all? (13 – 17 years)
iii.Discrimination of any sort or in any form infringes on human rights and is detrimental to human development in any place. Argue for or against this statement. (18 years and over)
5.Essay Format:
i.All essays must be written in ENGLISH.
ii.The first page of the essay should include the entrant’s NAME; AGE; MAILING ADDRESS; TELEPHONE NUMBER; EMAIL ADDRESS (if used); ESSAY TOPIC.
iii.All pages should be numbered. If submitting by physical mail, all pages should be numbered AND stapled together.
iv.If typewritten, the essay should be presented in Arial 12 point font.
6.SCORING (Total 100 Points):
a)Content/Originality: Does the entry present a fresh idea or present the topic in a new way? Is the entry interesting? 30 points
b)Organisation: Are the ideas in the entry clearly articulated? Does the entry follow a logical and easily-understood progression? Does it support the conclusions it draws? 30 points
c)Use of research/resource material: Does the entry utilize resource material accurately and effectively? 10 points
d)Writing: Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation and appropriate use of vocabulary. 30 points

8.The winner, first runner-up and second runner-up in each category will receive the following prizes respectively: 1. Apple iPad; 2. Kindle Fire; 3. Velocity Micro T-301 Cruz.
9. The prize-giving ceremony shall take place on Tuesday, July 31st 2012 at a time and place to be announced.
10. All entries shall become the property of the Ministry of Health (NAP), and shall be subject to publication in any format/media at the Ministry’s discretion.
