Coalition Partners donate new Tracker Dog to the Police

K9 Prego joins the force

Basseterre, St. Kitts (WINN):  The Police K9 Unit got a boost Wednesday with the official presentation of a tracker dog from a coalition of private sector partners.

The Force’s newest member Prego was presented with a feeding bowl and police vest at a ceremony held under in Independence Square Wednesday afternoon.

The Coalition of Support for St. Kitts-Nevis Security Initiatives (CSSKNSI) was ‘established to drive effective advocacy, change and progress in the areas of safety and security in St. Kitts and Nevis through one voice representing several organizations on the island.’  Its partners are: Christophe Harbor, Cockleshell Bay Development, Four Seasons Nevis, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, St. Kitts Marriott Resort/Royal Beach Casino, Royal St. Kitts Hotel & Casino, and Windsor University.

Representatives from the Coalition all attended the donation ceremony Wednesday during which they pledged their continued support of the Police Force and its initiatives, including the soon-to-be established Crime Stoppers Programme.

Commissioner of Police CG Walwyn thanked the coalition for its continued support, which he estimated had made donations so far totaling close to half a million dollars.

Prego is the Force's fifth K9.  Speaking to WINN FM following Wednesday's ceremony, Commissioner Walwyn said that he was sourcing another K9 for the Nevis Division.  He said that a K9 is valued at about $20,000.
