St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Geothermal energy on Nevis and wind energy on St. Kitts have not progressed to the stage where they will any time soon, be able to provide relief from mounting energy costs says Minister of Trade and Commerce Dr. Timothy Harris.
Dr. Harris was speaking to WINN FM over the weekend about the struggling manufacturing sector which is burdened by high operational costs. He says wind energy generation on St. Kitts is still bogged down at the bureaucratic stage, and as far as geothermal energy production on Nevis goes, he does not see that coming to fruition anytime soon.
Contacted Monday for an update on the geothermal project on Nevis, Energy Minister Carlisle Powell expressed displeasure with Dr. Harris comments.
While he would not give a timeline, he said the Nevis Island Administration was working hard to get the process kick-started.
