More layoffs at Electrofab

Basseterre, St. Kitts (WINN): Cash-strapped manufacturing firm Electrofab St. Kitts Ltd. continued its downsizing exercise as last month releasing some 11 workers taking the total number of terminated employees to 75 since February 2012. The company at the start of the year had announced that it would be laying off workers in response to a decline in business from its main clients internationally, namely in the USA and Germany. Since the company was preparing to lay off the first batch of workers earlier this year, the situation has worsened leading to layoffs in September and last month.

Operational activity at Electrofab has reduced significantly with the decline in business. Currently there are 33 direct workers employed at the firm thanks in part to assistance from Electrofab’s client in Germany. That client is paying the salary of 10 of those workers. Director of Manufacturing at Electrofab Trevor Greaux spoke to WINN Friday about the situation.
