Basseterre, St. Kitts (WINN): Chair of the Carnival Committee Sylvester Anthony is clarifying reports that suggested that the media would not be allowed to cover Sugar Mas events.
Speaking to WINN FM on Thursday, Mr. Anthony said that the Committee is seeking to form partnerships with media houses, which would include advertising in exchange for media accreditation for in-house shows. He says however, that organizations that choose not to partner with the Carnival Committee and freelance journalists can apply for media accreditation.
He said the new system would professionalize the process and allow for greater accountability. There will be no fee for accreditation and those accredited media will have wider access at shows than the general public.
The Carnival Committee Chair also addressed the decision not to hold the Calypso Queen Bacchanal this year, and said he hopes the event will be brought back in the future.
