St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Armed robbers struck again in Nevis Monday. According to police armed men approached C&C Sales delivery truck drivers in Rawlins Village at around midday Monday and demanded money.
No one was hurt during the incident. Police have not disclosed the amount of money taken.
Anyone with any information pertaining to the incident is asked to contact Gingerland Police Station at 469-3948 or the nearest Police Station.
One businessperson whose company also does island-wide deliveries, speaking to WINN FM Tuesday, said the threat of robbery is something that all such businesses continue to grapple with. While there is an option for delivery trucks only to accept cheques and deliver pre-paid orders, experience shows that it results in a drop off in business as many small shopkeepers prefer to make cash purchases on delivery.
There have been at least four daylight armed robberies on Nevis over the past few weeks.
On August 3rd a lone, masked gunman robbed the TDC drinks depot just after midday, breaking down the door of the office, putting a gun to the cashier’s head and demanding that she open the safe.
The following day at around 1:00 p.m. a masked gunman entered the Sweet Lips Bar in Charlestown and robbed the owner and patrons of an undisclosed sum of money and jewelry.
On August 30th two well dressed gunmen robbed a Nevis jewelry store of more than US100,000 in jewelry. A customer a Junior Minister in the Nevis Island Administration was instructed at gunpoint to lie on the floor and was also robbed of a bracelet and watch.
