Escaped prisoner recaptured

Allistair Isaac

Basseterre, St. Kitts (WINN):  An escaped prisoner was picked up by police Thursday night, just steps away from the Police Headquarters and the prison in downtown Basseterre.

Alistair Isaac who escaped while in the custody of Her Majesty’s Prison Officers on August 16th, was captured by officers in the vicinity of West Independence Square Street, with a firearm and ammunition in his possession.

According to a police press release issued Friday, members of the S.S.U assisted by Basseterre Beat and Patrol Officers had launched an island-wide operation to apprehend escaped Isaac.

An intensive search was conducted in Basseterre after he spotted in the St. Johnston's Village and New Town areas.    Observed in the vicinity of West Independence Square Street on Thursday night, he was quickly surrounded by officers who through a search incidental to arrest recovered the firearm and ammunition on his person.

An investigation into how Isaac managed to escape while in the custody of HMP Officers is still ongoing.

In Friday’s press release, Prison Superintendent Franklin Dorset and Police Commissioner CG Walwyn thanked the public for its support in reporting Isaac’s movements.

Isaac was originally arrested for robbery and assault.  He now faces additional charges for the escape and possession of the firearm and ammunition.

A relative of Isaac’s victim told WINN FM that the family was contacted by an Assistant Commissioner of Police on Thursday night, to inform them that he was back in custody.  She said Friday that his victim and the whole family had slept well for the first time since his escape three weeks ago.
