(Trinidad Express) The entertainment industry has been plunged into mourning as artiste, radio and television personality Devon Matthews died suddenly on Saturday night. Matthews was taken to the St Clair Medical Centre, shortly after collapsing backstage at the “Festival of Bands” event, which was held at St Mary’s Ground in St Clair.

The 36-year-old entertainer was a member of the RED 96.7 FM family and placed third in this year’s Young Kings and Soca Monarch competitions with his hit collaboration, “D Journey Remix (Make It)”.

Reports indicate that Matthews arrived at the venue on Saturday and told his DJ, friend and business partner, Gerard “Shotmaster J” Lake, that he was suffering from acid reflux and wasn’t feeling well. He also complained of “feeling warm” and later on during his performance, he reportedly asked MC, Ancil “Blaze” Isaac, to take over for him during his set.
