Basseterre: Pharmcarre Pharmacy in St. Kitts has been recognized by a top regional organization for outstanding service to the community and playing an invaluable role in upholding the true culture of a pharmacy.
At the 32nd Annual General Conference of the Caribbean Association of Pharmacists (CAP) held recently at the Hilton Barbados Resort in Barbados, Pharmcarre Pharmacy earned “The Caribbean Pharmacy Sigma Award.” This award is presented to the company that epitomizes the best of the pharmacy business culture as well as the setting, services and support, for the community.
Ivor Carr, one of the pharmacists at Pharmcarre, earned “The Caribbean Pharmacy Youth Leaders Award” presented to an individual who demonstrates leadership during the training and early years of their professional life. He also received one of “The Caribbean Association of Pharmacists Star Awards” for “significant contribution to the Association over the past year” due mainly to his integral role in planning and organizing CAP’s successful Executive Meeting held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort last December.
“It’s very humbling. We never expected to receive these awards,” Carr said. “We are just doing what we are very passionate about and enjoy bringing top notch service to the pharmaceutical field in St. Kitts and Nevis.”
Recognition by the Association, which was established in 1976, is very prestigious. CAP has many members and associate members in 21 countries in the Region stretching from The Bahamas in the north to Trinidad and Tobago in the south. In fact, 107 delegates reportedly attended a welcome reception for the annual conference according to Barbados Today Online. The numbers participating in the meeting were much larger.
Ivor is not the first member of his family to be recognized by CAP. In 2007, his mother Isabelle Carr, was awarded the “Caribbean Community Pharmacist of Distinction Award.” The award is given to a Caribbean Pharmacist who in the opinion of his /her peers has served the community and provided the highest level of Pharmacy. In 2008, she also received the Medi Whiz Champion Trophy after demonstrating the scope of her knowledge of pharmaceutical products, the symptoms they treat et al.
Pharmcarre - which is located on Fort Street in St. Kitts’ capital Basseterre - earned the awards with just over two years of service to the public.
“We are pioneering pharmacy services in St. Kitts and Nevis,” Ivor stated. “We want to thank the general public for the opportunity to serve them. The staff of Pharmcarre will continue working to improve our healthcare delivery and customer service,” Carr concluded.
